I would like to hold a market event elsewhere in Tiverton; do I need your permission?
In short, yes you do. As the licence holder for market rights in Tiverton, anyone else wishing to hold a market within 6 and 2/3 miles of Tiverton Pannier Market, needs to obtain our permission first.
Other markets include car boot sales, second-hand goods events (such as children's clothing and toy fairs), craft and gift fairs and school fêtes - all events where there are five or more stalls trading.
While we do retain the right to prevent rival markets from taking place, we will not be unfair with decision-making and generally see the benefit of charity/fund-raising events. However, we do ask that organisers of local events contact us first. Moreover, we may be able to help with publicity! Don't forget - you could also use Tiverton Market for your venue.
What parking and facilities are available?
- Pay and Display Parking is available adjacent to the Pannier Market (off Newport Street) (standard charges apply). Traders receive one free parking permit per pitch; additional permits are available at £1.00 each.
- Public Conveniences including easy-access and disabled toilets available
- Deli Street Market Café for refreshments
What do I need to be able to trade?
In order to trade at Tiverton Market, you must:
- Be 14 years of age or older
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Hold a minimum of £5M (5 million) Public Liability Insurance (if you operate a play inflatable, you will need £10M cover). We recommend Marketline or National Market Traders Federation as providers for this cover, however, there are many other suitable insurers that offer this.
- Hold other licences / paperwork as required for your field of trade.
Traders must complete a Trader Registration Form and receive a Licence to Trade from the Market Manager before commencing trade at Tiverton Market.
For full terms and conditions, please see our page on Trading Opportunities.
Is the Market venue available for private hire?
Hiring the Market Venue
The Market is available for private hire and we receive many enquiries for third-party events ranging from craft fairs, car boot sales, food festivals, pop-up restaurants and even wedding receptions!
You can book the South Hall (nearest the Half Moon pub), the North Hall (nearest Market Walk) or the whole Market (including outside space). Hirers will need to complete a Booking Form, although we recommend you contact us first to check availability: tivertonmarket@middevon.gov.uk.
If you wish to hold a regular market event here, please contact us to discuss and arrange an Annual Hire Agreement.
